The rosters for the 2017 Alberta PeeWee Prospects Cup teams were announced today. Four players from the Chargers team have been selected! The PeeWee Prospects Cup takes place every second year between Alberta Winter Games competitions.
The team selection occurred during a three day camp last weekend, April 7 to 9, 2017. There were more than 200 peewee aged players from all across Northern Alberta. The camp was held in Stony Plain and was a well organized combination of skills, drills and games. I (John Schneider) was able to attend the games on Friday night and selecting the team would have undoubtedly been difficult. There were a lot of high end players attending the camp. In the end, two teams were selected to represent the north. For the tournament in Lethbridge next month, there will be eight teams in total. Aforementioned North teams, two Capital teams, two South teams and two Calgary teams.
The Capital Green team, whose tryouts were in Edmonton on the same weekend, selected Can West ’04 Chargers netminder #29 Axtyn Spence (Sherwood Park).
The North Grey team selected centreman #74 Colton Schmidt (Grande Cache).
The North Orange team chose two ’04 Can West Chargers players, forward #79 Ashton Funk (Athabasca) and defenceman #82 Dominique Cyr (Legal).
This is a proud day for us here at Can West. We will be cheering for these four players at the 2017 PeeWee Prospects Cup in Lethbridge on the weekend of May 10 to 14. Good luck boys and a sincere congratulations!
You can catch the both the ’08 Wolves and the ’04 Chargers at the Thrive Tournament this weekend in Leduc. Chargers play on Friday at noon at Terwilligar C and then again Friday night, April 14 at 8:00 p.m. in Leduc.
